Tutormate Energy 4 Me Science Fairs Ambassador Lecture Program

How would you like to help change the life of a 1st grade student? Why is learning to read so pivotal?
Repeated research shows that students who can’t read proficiently by third grade become highly susceptible to larger setbacks as they grow older. Without the basic skill of reading, they are more likely to struggle throughout their school years, drop out of school and become enmeshed in the criminal justice system.

TutorMate allows busy professionals to help a 1st grader learn to read – without ever leaving the office!

  • Tutoring sessions occur once a week, for 30 minutes, via an online, shared screen connection. Volunteer is in their office, student is in their classroom.
  • Each tutor works with the same student throughout the school year-building a meaningful, supportive relationship.
  • Students and tutors read appropriately level stories and play activities that encourage fluency, comprehension, phonics, and spelling skills.
